Gokyo Lake Valley Trek is a classical trek in Everest Region which offers magnificent views of the mountain peaks and the Ngozumpa Glacier; the largest in the Nepal Himalayas.

The image of this region is associated with the soaring views of the most popular mountains in Nepal, at an altitude of 8000m such as Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu which are clearly visible from Gokyo Ri above the Gokyo Lake. One of the most remarkable features is the view of the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung (2922m) located in Khumbu region.

After a forty five minute flight from Kathmandu you will land in Lukla airport and the adventure begins from there. We spend the next few days trekking and interacting amongst the mountain people also known as Sherpa’s we stay at local lodges and trek into the heartland of their villages. Everything is organized in conjunction with our lguides. Along the trek we will pass Buddhist monasteries with the views of Everest and other snow towering mountains getting closer by the day. We will have rest days in the villages of Namche Bazaar that will allow us to explore the region and to acclimatize, which is very important. After trekking to Gokyo Ri (5483 meters), we return at a leisurely pace back to Namche Bazaar then Lukla. From Lukla we will flight back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary for Gokyo Lake Valley Trek

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1334m), Smile Adventure and Tours representative will transfer to hotel and check in hotel. After refreshment we offer short brief about your trip then rest and overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Morning have a breakfast and transfer to domestic airport then take a flight and fly to Lukla. After arrive in Lukla, trek from Lukla to Phakding (2830m). Overnight at lodger/Tea house.

Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3480m). Overnight at lodger/Tea house.

Day 04: Today we stay in Namche Bazaar as acclimatization day. Have a breakfast and you can explore around for beautiful Himalayan views, wild animals and Tibetan Monastery or you make hike to Everest view hotel for superb views of Mt. Everest ( 8848m), Mt.Lhots (8516m), Mt. Nuptse (7855m), Mt.Amadablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m), Mt. Kantega (6979m), Mt. Kusum Khangaru (6367m), Mt.Kongde (6011m), Khumbila (5761m) and other mountains. Overnight at Tea house/lodge.

Day 05: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Khumjung (3840m). Overnight at Tea house/lodge.

Day 06: Trek from Khumjung to Dole (4000m). Overnight at Tea house/lodge.

Day 07: Trek from Dole to Machhermo(4400m). Overnight at Tea house/lodge.

Day 08: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo Lake(4750m). Overnight at Tea house/lodge.

Day 09: Morning explore around Gokyo lake then hike to Gokyo Ri/Gokyo peak (5350m) for superb Himalayan views including the Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Mt. Nuptse (7855m), Mt. Pumori (7161m), Mt. Amadablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m), Mt. Kantega (6685m), Mt.Kusum Khagaru (6367m), Mt. Kongde (6011m), Mt.Twache peak (6367m), Mt. Cholaste (6335m) and other mountains. After that trek back to Gokyo Lake, have a lunch and start to trek back from Gokyo Lake to Machhermo. Overnight at teahouse/lodge.

Day 10 – Trek from Machhermo to Monjo (2835m.) – 5 hours. Overnight at lodge/teahouse.

Day 11 – Trek from Monjo to Lukla (2800m.) – 5 hours. Overnight at lodge/teahouse.

Day 12 – Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu – 30 minutes & transfer to hotel – 20 minutes. Overnight at hotel.

Day 13 – Rest in Kathmandu or enjoy shopping or sightseeing.

Day 14 – Transfer to the airport – 20 minutes for your final departure from Nepal.

Accommodation

Smile Adventure and tours arrange mid range hotel in Kathmandu – room on twin sharing basis where you will find neat and clean environment.
During the trekking, Smile Adventure will arrange your accommodation at standard tea house or lodge – room on twin sharing basis with attached bathroom however some places will not have attached bathroom so; bathroom are on sharing basis.

Meal

We offer breakfast in the hotel in Kathmandu but you have to pay your own lunch and dinner.
We will provide all meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) during the trekking in Mountain area.

Transportation

Private Vehicle : – Airport transfer (day 1, day 17) & drop (day 16).
Flight – round trip air fare US$ 330 for Kathmandu to Lukla (day 2) & Lukla to Kathmandu (day 17) which does not include in the above price.

Guide & Porter during the trekking

Smile Adventure and tours will provide a professional trekking guide (license holder). We arrange porter(s) to carry your gears (a porter can carry maximum 15 kg) and the porter will accompany with you. The number of porter depends on group size. We will provide the salary, accommodation, insurance, meals for the guide and porter.

A trekking day in Gokyo Lake Valley Trek

The trek starts after a delicious breakfast with a cup of tea. Our guide briefs about trail then after we start to walk of 3 to 4 hours. We offer lunch in a local teahouse or shop. After lunch you will relax for a while and continue to walk for for 3 to 4 hours until we reach next destination. When we reach next destination we can enjoy short hiking around the village or enjoy games. Evening have a dinner and overnight at the teahouse/lodge.

We also offer to rest frequently and give enough time to load & capacitor the amazing scenery of mountain, local settlement, and countryside in your camera during the trail.

Health & Experience Required for Gokyo Lake Valley Trek

The Gokyo Lake Valley Trek is a strenuous grade trek which offers at least 6-7 hours easy work in a day. We can do the Gokyo Lake Valley Trek if you have average physical fitness with good health condition. Please note that walking in higher altitude demands more physical fitness than walking in lower altitudes. Several weeks of exercise and jogging before the starting the Gokyo Lake Valley Trek is highly suggestible. If you have done hiking and have good past experience it also helps to do this Everest Base Camp Trek but technical skill does not require for this trip.

Headaches, fever, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite or stomach disorders are symptoms of high altitude Sickness, the main cause of high altitude sickness is lack of enough oxygen in air. We find less oxygen in the higher altitude then less altitude so the Gokyo Lake Valley Trek itinerary have been customized by Smile Adventure and Tours considering the sufficient time to acclimatize in each places.

Gokyo Lake Valley Trek is a Strenuous trek & This trek needs a good physical fitness with some mountain experience also. It offers a magnificent view of mountains range with a vertical climbing. This trip ascends up to 5350 meters.

Travel Insurance

All trekkers / travelers are requested to insure their travel insurance before traveling for Gokyo Lake Valley Trek. Please note that the insurance should be covered medical, air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and all treatment costs.
